Alice begins as a security operative working for the Umbrella Corporation until her memory is wiped by the Red Queen's nerve gas in the Hive. After surviving the initial outbreak, she is found by an Umbrella clean-up crew and escapes, then later explores the ravaged Raccoon City. In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, she teams up with Jill Valentine, who is already a surviving police officer, and later gains telekinetic powers at the end of the film but does not use them until Resident Evil: Extinction. By Resident Evil: Extinction, Alice roams the country alone, using telekinetic powers to join Claire Redfield's convoy and fight the crows alongside them. In Resident Evil: Afterlife, she leads an attack on Umbrella Headquarters in Tokyo, but Albert Wesker injects her with a serum that removes her super-human abilities. In Resident Evil: Retribution, she awakens in an Umbrella base and escapes with help from Ada Wong.

In Their Own Story

In the first film, Alice awakens from a coma to a ravaged Raccoon City after a T-virus outbreak. She survives the Hive along with teammate Matt Addison, but they are separated and taken by an Umbrella hazmat unit. In Apocalypse, after rescuing Jill Valentine and Angela Ashford, Alice confronts Major Timothy Cain and the Nemesis, leaving them dead before flying away from Raccoon City as it is destroyed by a nuclear missile. In Extinction, she discovers her clones in an Umbrella facility and warns the corporation that she is coming for them with an army. In Afterlife, she and her clones attack Umbrella Headquarters in Tokyo, but Wesker escapes and injects her with a serum that removes her powers. After six months of searching, she finds Claire Redfield with an Umbrella controlling device and a wiped memory, then flies to Los Angeles where they meet Luther West and Chris Redfield.

Milla Jovovich was cast as Alice in 2001, an original character who serves as the main protagonist of the film series. Paul W. S. Anderson stated the film would not include any tie-ins with the video game series, as 'under-performing movie tie-ins are too common and Resident Evil, of all games, deserved a good celluloid representation.'
